Who we are. The Pragmatic Critical Care Research Group (PCCRG) is a network of 7 Clinical Centers and one Clinical and Data Coordinating Center developed to design and conduct comparative effectiveness clinical trials in critical care. The PCCRG is dedicated to examining common critical care interventions in order to improve patient outcomes. To do so, the PCCRG has developed and implemented new approaches to evaluating the effectiveness of therapies during clinical care, emphasizing generalizability and translation of findings into practice.
Research Focus. The PCCRG has focused on two interventions fundamental to the care of critically ill adults.
Respiratory support – The PCCRG has completed 6 randomized trials evaluating interventions to improve the safety of tracheal intubation for critically ill adults.
Fluid management – The PCCRG has completed 3 trials enrolling over 30,000 acutely ill adults which helped determine that using balanced crystalloids for intravenous fluid administration may result in better patient outcomes than saline
Clinical Centers. We are located at academic and community hospitals across the United States.
